John O'Doherty is a Professional Engineer with broad technical and administrative experience in transportation engineering and planning. His primary focus at the National Center for Pavement Preservation (NCPP) is in education and training. Mr. O'Doherty has recently developed a network optimization module which he presents as part of NCPP's Applied Asset Management Course. He is currently developing courses on chip seals and ultra-thin overlays.
Recent outreach activities have included the development of preventive maintenance guidelines for several state departments of transportation and authorship of a monograph entitled "At the Crossroads: Preserving Our Highway Investment".
Prior to joining NCPP, Mr. O'Doherty was employed by a large state Department of Transportation (DOT) where he held various positions including State Maintenance Engineer, State Traffic Engineer, District Engineer, and Materials Research Engineer.
Before his state service, Mr. O'Doherty spent five years as an Associate of the consulting firm Alan M. Voorhees &Associates, Washington, D.C., from where he gained worldwide experience in transportation engineering and planning.
Mr. O'Doherty's academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and the post-graduate degrees of Master of Science and Civil Engineer from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Mr. O'Doherty is a Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and a registered Professional Engineer in Michigan .
