PAVEMENT PRESERVATION

THE "GREEN" ADDITION TO YOUR PAVING PROGRAM

You have now completed the calculations of Life Cycle Extension for your roadway network and the lower Life Cycle Cost
that result when pavement preservation is employed.

Now, let's look at the " GREEN EFFECT " of your pavement preservation efforts:

FACTS:

  1. A major factor in any activity being classified as "GREEN" is the reduction in greenhouse gas thereby reducing global warming effect.

  2. The process of hot mix asphalt production and placement of HMA on your roads has a negative effect on the enviroment — CO2 emissions.

  3. The production and placement of HMA emits 3.91 pounds of CO2 per ton of HMA. This equates to 1418 pounds of CO2 per lane mile for each inch of overlay thickness.

  4. Now use this next feature of our Calculator to find the significant reduction in CO2 emissions your pavement preservations efforts can produce. This is a true " GREEN EFFECT " attributed to stretching the time interval between scheduled repaving.
